Abstract:This paper discusses the application of cable-stayed bridges in new fields: multi-span cable-stayed bridges. It first briefly reviews the history and introduces Riccardo Morandi. Then it presents several recently built multi-span cable-stayed bridges and the concepts proposed over the past three decades. Finally, it showcases three major recent engineering projects, at least one of which will be constructed, demonstrating that multi-span cable-stayed bridges are highly effective for wide rivers and straits.

Abstract:An experimental study was conducted on a 3/10 large-scale model of a two-span post-tensioned slab bridge. The model was directly erected on columns without column caps; in addition to uniformly distributed longitudinal post-tensioned tendons, band-shaped transverse prestressing tendon bundles were arranged in the anchorage zones above the columns. AASHTO lane loads were applied to observe the short-term and long-term responses of the model structure under dead and live loads, and the results were compared with finite element analysis.

Abstract:In many segmental and monolithic box-girder bridges, accurate estimation of prestress friction loss remains an unresolved issue. Based on practical experience, this paper analyzes the post-tensioning friction loss and deviation loss between segmental and monolithic girders, and studies the advantages and disadvantages of prestressing tendons coated with lubricant.

Abstract:Since the through-type cable-saddle anchorage structure was adopted on the Yakiho-minami and Yakiho-kita Bridges, it has been widely used in inclined-pylon cable-stayed bridges. This paper introduces the application of the improved anti-slip anchorage-type saddle structure on the Mitanigawa No.2 Bridge and its full-scale model test. The tests include basic tests, performance tests of the saddle anchorage device, and the variation of tension-difference transmission.

Abstract:This paper introduces the external prestressing strengthening of the Aljunied Viaduct in Singapore, and discusses the corrosion protection of external tendons, the design of anchor ends, the restraint of tendons and natural frequency, as well as the production of corbels and the strengthening of diaphragms.

Abstract:This document provides guidance for the following topics of stay cables of cable-stayed bridges: (a) main tensioning unit (stay cable); (b) sheath. The stay cable consists of a parallel steel-wire bundle encased in a polyethylene sheath and then filled with cement grout. The cable has been inspected many times with no sign of corrosion. The first adoption of this system in the United States was the Pasco-Kennewick Bridge completed in 1978.
